Having two timeshares in Palm Desert/Rancho Mirage, the family loves to vacation in the desert for some last minute sunshine. But I didn’t just soak up the sun during this trip. I’m here to report the food. So, here it goes.

Whenever we’re in the area, one place is a MUST for us: Las Casuelas Cafe in Palm Desert, CA. For Mexican food lovers, this is the real deal. Almost immediately after we are seated, chips and salsa are at our table. The chips are definitely homemade and still hot when dig in. And the salsa is addicting! We ended up going to Las Casuelas Cafe twice during the week. Yes, it was that good. I ordered the combination plate with 3 items (because the price difference between 2 and 3 items is only $1!) with 2 crunchy chicken tacos and one beef/bean burrito. The combination plates also come with rice and beans.

I am a big fan of crunchy tacos–as you can tell. These, in particular, were the tastest crunchy tacos I’ve ever had. I devoured both before I realized I was full. The quick inhalation of food was unstoppable. The ingredients are fresh and also taste fresh.

The best part about the 3 item combination plate is having leftovers to take home. I had my burrito, rice, and beans left– so, it was like another meal! Normally, I’m not that excited about leftovers. Somehow, the doggie bag never tastes like it does the first time around. However, the beef/bean burrito and sides had an amazing replay effect. The meat wasn’t dry. Rather, it resembled the same juiciness that I would have expected when it was served to me at the restaurant. Needless to say, I ordered the same 3 item combination plate again when I went back 3 days later.

M ordered a similar combination plate: two crunchy chicken tacos and a chicken enchilada. We are a crunchy taco loving family!

Aside from the mouth-watering food, the service is excellent. My water glass was constantly kept full and they aren’t shy about serving another round of chips. Although it’s been a few years since I’ve been to Palm Desert with the family, Las Casuelas Cafe helped me remember why we keep going back.

Our last night of the vacation happened to be my parents’ anniversary. I guess they wanted to go all out. We dined at Sirroco, located at the Esmerelda Renaissance Palm Springs in Indian Wells, CA.

Everything on the menu is pretty pricey. However, the quality of preparation, plating, and presentation is worth it. Unfortunately, I ate my amuse-bouche before I remembered that I should have taken a picture. An amuse-bouche is essentially a one bite hors d’Ĺ“uvre. It is a chef’s selection, which differs from a diner-selected appetizer. The amuse-bouche of the evening was a 3-cheese beet ravioli.

I ordered a spinach salad with bacon, pecans, and mozzarella tossed in a tangerine vinaigrette.

After the salad, we were served a berry sorbet to cleanse our palette.

Finally, I received my entree– pumpkin ravioli with a butternut wine sauce.

Sirocco was the best way to end the week. The ambiance was pleasant and elegant. The low key setting was accompanied by a very attentive wait staff. The overall experience was beyond my expectations. Not to mention, I savored every mouthful of flavorful delight.
